At Sacred Space Retreats, individuals struggling with addiction are invited to participate in a residential substance abuse treatment program that emphasizes holistic therapies as a means of treating addiction. Situated in a rural, mountainous region of Middletown, Calif., Sacred Space Retreats incorporates the natural environment into individuals' recovery process, encouraging patients to reassess diet and lifestyle choices as a means of overcoming addiction. Rather than prescribing traditional withdrawal medications such as Buprenorphine, Sacred Space provides patients with non-narcotic natural supplementation to offset withdrawal symptoms. Viewing the individual as a holistic whole, Sacred Space Retreats encourages patients to investigate the source of their addiction, using therapies such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to assist patients in understanding and confronting the sources of their addictions.

Withdrawing off of these medications can be much easier when you have mind, body, spirit support. - Martial Arts
Martial arts can be an important tool in the rebuilding of your success. This involves exercises where we demonstrate some movements and you have to repeat and replicate the movement. By practicing the same moves over and over you cause for your body to eventually submit to what your mind is telling it to do. This makes you become more in alignment mind and body. And in this way you get stronger from the inside out. To become ONE.

I'm a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology; and a Diplomate of the American Board of Addiction Medicine practicing in pharmacological management of psychiatric disorders (ADD, mood disorders, anxiety, brain SPECT imaging and addictionology). I've researched traumatic brain injuries and Sports Psychiatry and I'm a distinguished member of the International Society of Sports Psychiatry. I attended the UCLA School of Medicine and stayed at UCLA for my internship and residency in Psychiatry and Neurology. I also served in the US Marine Corps, Infantry and was in 3 combat actions: Grenada, Panama, and Desert Storm. I've worked in the juvenile and adult justice system in LA, in California's Regional Center and with children in foster care and group homes who struggle with addiction and/or mental illness. I also served as the Medical Director of Windstone Behavioral Health and Suboxone Clinic. My paradigm of treatment is, "Treat a person, not a diagnosis!" I use a holistic model and incorporate exercise, diet, therapy, supplements and psychopharmacological therapies. I co-authored the book "Failure to Launch" and have served as an expert witness on numerous court cases requiring a forensic psychiatrist.
How Our Helpline Works
For those seeking addiction treatment for themselves or a loved one, the Recovery.org helpline is a private and convenient solution.
Calls to any general helpline (non-facility specific 1-8XX numbers) for your visit will be answered by American Addiction Centers (AAC).
We are standing by 24/7 to discuss your treatment options. Our representatives work solely for AAC and will discuss whether an AAC facility may be an option for you.
Our helpline is offered at no cost to you and with no obligation to enter into treatment. Neither Recovery.org nor AAC receives any commission or other fee that is dependent upon which treatment provider a visitor may ultimately choose.
For more information on AAC’s commitment to ethical marketing and treatment practices, or to learn more about how to select a treatment provider, visit our About AAC page.
