He is a co-founder and Strategic Advisor of Alta Mira Recovery Programs, located in Sausalito, California, as well as a co-founder and former Clinical Director of Bayside Marin, a recovery center located in San Rafael, California which was later acquired by CRC Health Group. Roland is currently an Associate Professor at California State University, East Bay, where he teaches courses in addiction treatment.

Carol is the co-author, with Debra Jay, of the definitive guidebook in the field, Aging and Addiction: Helping Older Adults Overcome Alcohol and Medication Dependence, and is frequently invited to present and consult at universities, professional conferences, and government agencies.
