Treatment Insights

Saint Jude Executive Retreat is a luxurious, 5,000 square foot country home on private, secluded land in upstate New York. Many of our executive guests have made multiple attempts at treatment, but “relapse and recovery” are not a part of the program here. Our guests have important responsibilities, from families to careers and their own companies, and need to end their substance use forever, not one day at a time. Saint Jude Retreats focuses on a non 12 Step, non disease based, Cognitive Behavioral Learning approach emphasizing personal responsibility and self-directed change through a process of self-analysis. You write your own plan for going home designed to achieve your best outcomes in all areas of life with Transitional Planning tailored to meet your individual goals and needs. You’re always in the driver’s seat and decide what matters most to you and how to make it happen, and unlike treatment centers which all leave a paper trail to your identity through your insurance, Saint Jude Retreats is entirely confidential. While our retreat houses are open to all, our Executive Retreat is exclusively for those who require additional privacy, confidentiality, and attention.

Areas of Focus
Family Program

Research shows that the odds of successful, sustained recovery from addiction are far higher when family members and loved ones are involved in treatment. Drug and alcohol addiction often have genetic roots, whether related to substance abuse, mental illness or both. Family dynamics also play a role and, often, family members are the first to realize a loved one has developed an addiction. Also, it’s important for family members to understand and embrace the lifestyle changes that are required to sustain recovery.

Individualized Treatment

Some facilities have an addiction treatment protocol that all patients or clients are expected to follow, while others customize or individualize treatment based on a person’s unique needs and circumstances. Factors that may affect treatment decisions include age, lifestyle, medical conditions, type of drug, religious beliefs, etc.

Residential Treatment

Residential treatment programs provide housing (food and meals) in addition to treatment for substance abuse. Some facilities offer only short-term residential treatment, some offer only long-term treatment and others offer both, ranging from a few days to many months, based on patient needs.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

The focus of cognitive behavioral therapy (also called CBT) is helping people to understand the thoughts and emotions that underlie their addiction with the goal of learning new, healthier and more productive ways to understand and express themselves.

Alumni Testimonials
  • From the first moment that I walked into the St. Jude Retreat House, I knew this place was different. I felt a sense of comfort and belonging immediately. The ideas and concepts were new to me. There were no counselors or psychiatrists diagnosing me. There was no substituting one drug for another. There were no group therapy sessions. And there was no blaming others for my life's failures. Yes, I learned that much of my life was my fault, but I learned that this was truly good news, because that meant I could fix it. And I was shown exactly how to do just that. The Saint Jude Program has changed my life completely. I have found a new sense of peace in my life. I am so grateful that I have decided to stay and help others to gain the freedom and happiness that I now enjoy.
  • I want to thank you for helping Jason and I out with his appointment, everything went very well. Yesterday I realized that I am truly getting my son back. Jason and I had a great day and we laughed together which we haven't done in a very long time. I know he still has work to do on his attitude and with anger issues, but I do see many positive changes and I know he is trying hard. One of the best things I have ever done in my life was to click on your website, and then make the call. From Britney, then to you, the brilliant instructors, and the rest of the staff, having found St. Judes is such a wonderful blessing to us! I am forever greatful!! Please pass this along for me.
  • I just wanted to write to thank you for my stay at the Executive Retreat. I was so pleased with everything and I have never been somewhere that everything that was promised on the web site, actually was. I was not disappointed in any way and left in great spirits. My room was comfortable and clean. The food was great too, better than expected. Dan was my instructor and he really helped me a lot. The classes really taught me a lot about myself and my drug using habits. The staff was great and all of the social events were a lot of fun. Like I said, there was nothing that was promised that didn't happen. My stay was a great experience and I can't wait to get started on the life I have planned out for myself.
