Another Los Angeles insider boondoggle. "Invest" in the old technology (cars & freeways) that keep taking California back to the 1960s. Whatever happened to the high-speed rail idea between Sylmar & downtown LA? No wonder California (& the US generally) will continue in retrograde motion until China declares us a 3rd world country. Reply to KK : How many of these so called workers are authentic american citizens? These jobs should be reserved for the documented and american trained and skilled workers. Reply

What a waste, learn from Washington state, using their monies more wise, building a nuclear falicity creating thousands of jobs, while we continue to expands freeways??? We should built a Bullet train that would save the environment, gas and overpriced vehicles and car insurance. But the state does not learn. We would link San Francisco and LA and really be the most competative government in America.WHY DONT WE MOVE TO THE 21ST CENTURY AND STOP OUR OLD WAYS THAT WEAKEN ETHICS WITH GREED IN OIL. Reply

Reply to Benson : This is a move in the wrong direction. Anyone who has driven on a congested highway with HOV lanes knows that HOV lanes don't accomplish anything other than to increase congestion. HOV lanes are a failed experiment in social engineering and should be discarded. Reply

This project created 4,000 plus jobs? I drive it every day and I see the same 7 to 8 people working on it. Where are the other 3,992 workers? Don't get me started about thier work hours or frequent days off. Reply

For almost a billion dollars LA could scrap the 405 project and build a very nice subway system that would provide a lot of jobs and be very green. Why do we keep doing the wrong things over and over again??? Reply

How do you increase LA jobs by constructing or widening freeways? How many workers have been impacted by this project? Why not increase the rail transportation using the middle of the freeway than just widening freeways? the latter improves one area and create a gridlock in another area? Reply

How is this different than the $900 Million I 405 project? Reply

Reply to Carlitos Mendez : Carlitos Mendez: If you read the desciption of the project you would learn that it involves I-405 from I-10 to CA-101. The earlier I-405 project involved the section further south, between CA-90 to I-10, which will be fully operational in December. It should greatly alleviate traffic in the second most heaily travelled freeway on the planet (the I-10 in LA is #1). The reconfigured 12-lane roadway was made wide enough to eventually handle 14 lanes by simple re-striping in the near future. Reply

Reply to Duane Weisenhaus : $720 Million? Estimates on rail construction in urban areas usually put costs of a subway at $30 million per mile; costs of elevated track at $20 - $30 million per mile; and at grade track at $10 - $25 million per mile. That's 24 miles of subway that we could be building. That would build the subway to the sea twice over. Reply

Reply to D Adam : city and road works projects are all massively looted at every turn. when you see a road work project and guys with brooms pushing pebbles around, you're watching tax dollars vaporize. every city has a kickback scheme ( legal in some places, less so in others ) where they employ construction crews with extra workers. so when you see guys with brooms or shovels, scraping concrete, you are watching your money get blown like a jet's afterburner. the stimulus is being looted at every turn. sending the stimulus to kickback crews is insane. i urge my friends in the armed forces to return home and decapitate wall street. cheers.
