(I wanted to respond to a cavilier and detached comment, thanking a person for paying , and not being able to use the benefit) Why should an already advantaged class receive a further advantage - Have their nerves soothed by dealing with less traffic - having less accidents - arriving home at a decent hour to eat dinner, relax and rest - and be better productive - so that they can make more money and then complain about paying more taxes, therefore, needing more advantage - a circling arguement Reply

I keep reading about how one class of citizenry will benefit over another - same ol' American issue! Why can't they spend a little of this money to produce free passes to a certain income bracket. The "heartbeat" issue and benefit of these, and all constucted roads is to increase and facilitate American economic production (don't forget). I'm sure that EVERYBODY would like and should have the "American advertised" EQUAL chance to be more economically productive... for themselves AND America! Reply

Agree with the abuse of funds here. I always remember the toll road authority in Houston when the Beltway 8 was being constructed and how the TRA said once BW8 was finished and paid for with toll funds, it would be a free road. The thing a toll road does is place a socio-economic barrier on roads. You can either 1) pay 1.50 every 3 miles and drive somewhat speedy or 2) stay on the feeder roads which are always backed up. The upper/middle class are afforded the luxury, the poor are not. Reply

why is it a toll road when taxpayers built the road Reply

That road has been finished for over a year. All that's left is to put up toll booths. It's been open and used since 2008. Reply

Reply to dt : This is the part of 99 NORTH of I-10. This has not been built yet. The road you are referring to is SOUTH of I-10. Reply

Hey overit, you're right that nobody is making us use the toll roads but it looks as though they're making us all pay for it wether we use them or not so pull your freakin head out buddy...... Reply

Reply to sandman : sandman - The ARRA is only paying for a portion of it. The rest is coming from other places including the tolls. I can assure you that the people that can afford the tolls also contributing a larger percentage (through taxes) than people that can't afford them. Also, in case I forgot to tell you...THANK YOU for your contribution to my toll road! Reply

Nobody is making you use the toll roads. If you can't afford it, then don't use them! Reply

What a sham. We don't need another toll road in Texas. This would have been a great opportunity to turn one of these projects into something everyone could have used, not just Rick Perry and the wealthy. Reply

Reply to S. Evans : I love when the government uses our own money to build these roads, then charges us to use them! Then folks who are a tight budget can not use the roads they paid for! They tax our salaries, our purchases, our services..everything. The one thing that should not taxed for every use are roads! We paid for them! Reply

This is an outrage. Toll roads displace socio-economically challenged people and build in intractable boards, and in some instances, foreign control. The truth is, in time if toll road construction is not ended in the United States, the country will become a series of many colonas separated by ecomonics. The gas tax and pay as you go method of road construction has worked well in Texas for many years. Toll roads are just another power grab. Reply

Agreed. We need mobility for ALL citizens, not for the wealthy only. This stimulus is for all, not the few. Never forget just exactly who "We The People" really are. Reply

No more tolls! Reply

No more TOLLS. This doesnt fall in the premise of a toll. The toll is to subsidize construction, but this project is fully funded under ARRA. Whats going on??? Reply

Debra  Jul-09-2009 08:40:53 AM
Reply to Chris : Absolutely. Our tax dollars should not be a tax on us with toll roads. All road work under the stimulus package should not fall into the "toll road" category. These projects should go forward but not as toll roads. Reply
