With wasteful and expensive projects like this, is it any wonder why California is on the verge of bankruptcy? The two most progressive states (California and New York) that will likely run out of money before the end of 2009 should serve as an example of exactly what NOT to do! Why do these idiots keep pouring money into these black holes! Reply

The buses actually are manufactured in another country, no american jobs were saved, made, or bought. Reply

What a wasteful shame... no doubt a couple(few) congress folks got a few million in their coffers under the table to push this one through.... Over $650,000 per bus.... not a single job that will last ... just keep printing dollars and borrowing ... against our grandchildrens future.... Reply

Until the VTA can prove they are able to run a mass transit system effectively and efficiently, no additional federal dollars should be allocated to the VTA for niceties like this. Reply

This is a project to support the liberal propaganda supporting to "Green" movement. Dont get me wrong, it is important for America to lead the world in Green technologies thusly providing opportunities future export of goods and services but 10,000,000 dollars for buses? But at this point and time we should be using as much money as possible to rebuild our nations infrastucture and foundations of educations. If not we lose key cornerstones of the nations foundation. How does it cost $658,532.71 and employ 7.15 people to upgrade one regular bus to one hybrid bus? Reply

Reply to Ryan : The White House counts the jobs that went into building the bus - the engineers, the mechanics, the painters. The reality is the government has no idea how many jobs will be created (or worse, that silly "jobs saved") from the stimulus. It's a big guess and a big joke. Sadly, it's made with OUR taxpayer money. Reply
