The Ohio River and Mississippi have several severely aged locks. In fact, one on the Ohio River recently failed; and disaster was averted only because there were safety provisions in place. Unfortunately, many of these safety provisions do not exist on the Mississippi locks. Not only is this a safety issue, but it effects huge amounts of commerce since much of our agricultural exports are transported very economically (at low energy costs) via the Mississippi. Reply
