Let's put this in perspective. DC $6.8 B for a population of 550,000 = $12,363.00 per person. Average for the US $126.4 Billon for a population of 300,000,000 = $421.00 per person. That's pathetic. Reply

This is a solicitation for PROJECT ESTIMATORS. They are willing to pay 2 BILLION dollars over 4 years for accurate pricing on a so far unspecified set of projects. This indicates that in the past they have spent at LEAST 500 million a year in overruns on these types of projects. At least they are asking for a great deal of substantiable paperwork to prove they can do this. That is alot of cheddar... Reply

It's pointless to comment because I believe there is not a single person here who knows what this project is. Maybe some one at msnbc could look into it since it is purportedly $1 billion Reply

The taps are open! The Job Impact #s are the propaganda in this whole thing. The White House #s are so high compared to the supposedly actual jobs. Stimulus for who? Sure the projects add $$ to the economy, but who will get the most? Obviously to sell this plan, the White House had to sell it with the inflated jobs. A joke! Just as numbers of the creation of new jobs with the administration's plan. A raise is considered +1, put someone on furlough, then call back in a week or two, +1. Reply

To all disaffected responders, Perhaps you would all prefer the Bush response to Katrina again and again? This is how contracts with the government are written. Period. If you want simplicity, watch Rush Limbaugh. Reply

Reply to Gene Fisch : Hey Gene, you should get the Nobel Prize for literature or comedy for your response. Reply

Reply to Gene Fisch : Do you understand what FEMA's duties were at the time Katrina hit. At that time, its job was to coordinate (oh, sound familiar?, as in Obama?) between the various state and local gvmnt agencies. Warnings and suggestions given to the LA govnr and N. O. mayor prior to the event were ignored, and flat a$$ed refused. There is plenty of blame to go around. Look at the fraud and waste now of good money gone down the big muck hole of New Orleans. It's stupid to rebuild anything below river level. Reply

Reply to Gene Fisch : Perhaps that is why there is so much graft, corruption, and waste of government funds Gene. What we are witnessing here is an outrageous amount of money going out, and a lot of bureaucratic doublespeak about where it will be used. And still no identification of what the end product we are paying for actually is. This is a perfect recipe for theft and misuse of taxpayers funds. Reply

When a task requiring billions of dollars to complete cannot be justified in a simple paragraph that clearly defines the end goal, it makes this taxpayer leery of it. This is the same kind of meaningless doubletalk one would get from a street con artist running a crooked scam. What is the end product?! Reply

DC gets 7 billion and the entire state of Michigan gets under 4 billion. Amazing! Reply

ER  Nov-11-2009 07:34:36 AM
Reply to Jon : We need the money--DC is in pretty terrible shape, and seeing as we have no voting representative in Congress we are usually overlooked for funding support, unlike big states like Michigan, so give us a break! Reply

Chris  Nov-11-2009 10:10:38 AM
Reply to Jon : Of the 7 billion, not all is actually taking place in DC. There are contracts for the YMCA in LA, Savannah River cleanup in SC, etc. - but probably just listed in this DC section because it's a contract started with a federal government branch in DC. You can find other "federal level" projects in PG county in Maryland, too - including one big one for a NASA program with work all over the country, but it's led by Goddard Flight Center in MD. Reply to Jon : Yeah....I see that DC made sure they got a HUGE amount of money and other states got very little........typical government "help"......... Reply

A $2 billion dollar blank check just because the government can't figure out what or how to rebuild things? Reply

Andy  Nov-11-2009 11:03:44 AM
Reply to Scott : Amen to that Scott!! Did you notice the difference in the estimated amount? From half a million to 2 billion. A lot of room for thievery in that estimate!!! Reply

BOO  Nov-11-2009 12:40:23 PM
Reply to Andy : Gee, where is Marion Barry now, since this is fertile ground. How much cocaine can you buy with that amount of money and go to prison, get out, and be re-elected. And we wonder what is wrong. In any state outside of DC a federal conviction disqualifies you from running for office let alone being re-elected. Reply

Reply to Andy : Reply to Scott and Andy: Simple minds require simple answers. While some projects sound specious, for the two of you to declare that the set-aside for D.C. is for money to be sent to D.C. is indicative of your inability or unwillingness to actually read the details of the grants and contracts proposed or awarded: They actually will affect nearly every state. You should read up before spewing conclusions about an issue about which you fail to demonstrate the slightest understanding. Reply

Dear Leader Chairman Maobama  Nov-19-2009 08:06:17 AM
Reply to J Kamp : Hey Comrad, thanks for clouding the real issue which is that this is all part of my royal plan to bring economic justice to the world. Say it with me now...the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. please drink some more socialist koolaid with me. Reply
