Banyan Delaware

Hands down the best and most clean rehabilitation center I've ever been to. Lots of amenities such as yoga, mindful meditation and pizza day each Tuesday. I guarantee you will love it.

Drug Addiction in Delaware

According to a 2016 Drug Enforcement Administration report, the primary drug threats to Delaware are heroin and diverted prescription opioids based on information related to drug availability, drug seizures, treatment admissions, and drug-related overdose deaths.1 In 2016, 308 people in the state died from addiction, fueled by heroin laced with fentanyl. As of May, 23, 2017, 85 people had died from addiction-related causes, including overdose.3

Law enforcement and service providers have tried to increase access to treatment, which remains a challenge in the state. That said, the state treatment rate for people with drug dependence was higher than the national average from 2010 to 2014.

Addiction by the Numbers
  • Drug-related overdose deaths in Delaware increased from 2012 to 2015, from 172 to 228. After experiencing a decrease between 2012 and 2014, cocaine-related deaths rose 44.8% from 2014 to 2015. And after a decrease of 17.5% between 2012 and 2013, heroin-related deaths rose more than 90% from 2013 to 2014.1
  • Heroin treatment admissions went from 1,845 in 2012 to 2,750 in 2013 to 3,182 in 2014. Alcohol admissions declined from 1,924 in 2010 to 1,105 in 2014.5
  • Among individuals aged 12 or older with illicit drug dependence or abuse, about 7,000 individuals per year (29%) from 2010 to 2014 received treatment within the year prior to being surveyed. Delaware’s annual average of treatment for individuals aged 12 or older with drug dependence or abuse was higher than the annual national average (14.1%) from 2010 to 2014.1
How Much Does Rehab Cost?

The cost of attending treatment in DE will depend on a number of factors including the center’s location, your length of stay, the type of treatment you receive and the kind of amenities offered at the facility. If you want the personal comforts of a private room, gourmet meals, access to a pool or gym, exercise equipment, or nature, you may end up paying more than standard treatment.

Keep in mind that a higher price tag doesn’t necessarily mean higher quality. Just because a place is more expensive, you should still do your research to make sure it uses evidence based treatments and employs physicians and therapists that are licensed and trained in addiction treatment.

To cover the costs of treatment you can:

  • Use public or private insurance.
  • Take out a personal or healthcare loan.
  • Put the balance on a credit card.
  • Launch a crowdfunding campaign.
  • Ask friends and family for help.
  • Find a treatment center that offers sliding scale fees.
  • Reach out to community organizations or charities that offer treatment.
Treatment Options

In Delaware, there are a range of available treatment programs including detoxification programs, residential inpatient programs, hospital based programs, high-end luxury programs and outpatient programs. Every program offers different services and approaches in order to meet the needs of anyone struggling with addiction. Before choosing a program, you can meet with an addiction specialist to see what services they recommend and base your choice for treatment on their recommendation.

Delaware has 30 outpatient programs, 9 residential programs, and 2 hospital inpatient programs. Nine facilities provide medication-assisted treatment for opioid addiction.2

Most programs offer a combination of evidence-based therapies such as cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and contingency management to help you address the underlying issues fueling your addiction. Programs may also offer services like massage, yoga, and acupuncture to help you stay engaged in treatment.
